Elling Klemmetson, a successful farmer in Ulen Township, Minnesota, immigrated to the United States from Norway as a young boy. He built a prosperous farm and a comfortable home, raising a large family of ten children with his wife Segre. Elling actively participated in community initiatives and held positions on the school board while remaining dedicated to the Lutheran Church. Elling Klemmetson, the owner of a fine 160-acre farm in section 2 of Ulen Township, Clay County, Minnesota, arrived in the county on March 1, 1880. Louis Osterlund, coming from Sweden in 1881, became the assistant postmaster in 1882 and a clerk in the store. Peter Wicklund bought an interest in the company and became a member of the firm December 1, 1882. The store was operated for three years and with a big closing out sale, it went out of business; the building was then used for Dassel’s roller skating rink. In 1887, the property was sold to J. Ole Ulen, the famous founder of Ulen township, was born in Norway, April 18, 1818, and died in the village of Ulen, on January 19, 1891. Mrs. Ulen passed away on February 10, three years later.
