Dr. Olaf J. Hagen, B. So., M. D., is a distinguished physician and surgeon practicing in Moorhead since 1907. Born on September 16, 1872, in Menominee, Wisconsin, he is the seventh of nine children born to Norwegian immigrants Jens H. and Gunhild (Stendahl) Hagen. The family settled in Fort Abercrombie, North Dakota, in 1873. Dr. Hagen’s education includes degrees from Valparaiso University and the University of Minnesota, with post-graduate studies at Berlin University and Jefferson Medical College. He previously taught at Concordia College and served as county superintendent of schools in Richland County. Currently, he is the city physician of Moorhead and a member of several fraternal organizations, including the Masonic Order and the Knights of Pythias.
Olaf J. Hagen, B. So., M. D., is a young and accomplished physician and surgeon practicing in Moorhead. He commenced his practice in the area in 1907. He is the brother of Halvor J. Hagen, a prominent banker in Fort Abercrombie. Olaf J. Hagen is the seventh child in a family of nine children, with seven of them still living.
Dr. Hagen was born on September 16, 1872, in Menominee, Wisconsin. He comes from Norwegian ancestry. His parents, Jens H. and Gunhild (Stendahl) Hagen, were natives of Throndhjem, Norway. They migrated to the United States and became early settlers in Fort Abercrombie in 1873. They engaged in farming on the plains and achieved considerable success. They spent the rest of their lives there. Mrs. Hagen passed away in 1908 at the age of seventy-six.
Olaf J. Hagen attended the public schools in Richland County, North Dakota, which provided him with a solid educational foundation for his college studies. He started his college journey at the State Normal in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Subsequently, he enrolled at Valparaiso University in Indiana, where he graduated with the class of 1896. Afterward, he pursued further education at the academic and medical departments of the University of Minnesota, earning his degree in 1906. He has also completed post-graduate courses at the clinics of the Berlin University and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
Dr. Hagen has consistently shown a strong interest in educational work. He served as an instructor at Concordia College in Moorhead from 1891 to 1894 and held the position of county superintendent of schools in Richland County, North Dakota, from 1898 to 1902. Currently, he serves as the city physician of Moorhead and is highly regarded as a valuable and esteemed citizen. He holds memberships in various organizations, including the Masonic Order, the Knights of Pythias, the Modern Woodmen of America, and the A. O. U. W.
