About the Author

Oscar E. Linquist was born in the town of Dassel, April 6, 1874, son of Andrew* and Mary Linquist.

He was educated in the Dassel Public Schools, Emanuel Academy, Curtiss Commercial College. Operated a job printing office in Dassel for several years, then employed in various business places until appointed postmaster of Dassel in 1897, serving until 1915. With the Wm. A. Linquist Piano Co., 1916 to 1919. Operated a restaurant and confectionery, 1920 to 1924. Again appointed postmaster in 1925 and in that position until 1934.

He was Village Recorder in 1901 and 1902. A member of the Village Council, 1920 to 1923, and 1935 to 1943. Secretary of the Dassel Fire Department, 1903 to 1929. Secretary of the Fair 21 years, and manager of the Opera House 27 years. He is a member of Griswold Lodge No. 218, A. F. & A. M., Rabboni Chapter No. 39, Royal Arch Masons; Melita Commandery No. 27, Knights Templar and Osman Temple of Saint Paul

In 1935 Linquist’s Restaurant was established, a meeting place of the people, which is operated by him.

Became a Republican while distributing campaign literature for James G. Blaine and John A. Logan in 1884 and did this work every four years since that time, besides raising funds to advance the interests of the Republican Party.

Married November 8, 1899 to Alice E. Ellstrom. They have a daughter, Lenore L., married to Edward R. Eben, September 15, 1925, who live in Peoria, Illinois, where he is in the employ of the Standard Oil Company. They have a son, Craig E. Eben, born November 8, 1930 at Evanston, Illinois.

* Andrew Linquist died February 3, 1889. His age was 39.
